Homeless Shelter Missions

Look on the fields, for they are white already to harvest – John 4:35

For more than fifty years I have served in gospel rescue missions—from the skid-row streets of Chicago to Albuquerque and on to Atlanta—walking with men and women who have lost their homes, their health, and often their hope. Over the last fifteen years I have traveled to gospel rescue missions in every state across this nation, carrying one clear message: learning to be forgiving like Jesus brings a new hope and a new life. High Plains Bible Mission exists to bring that practical, Scripture-rooted teaching into the very places where the need is greatest—the gospel rescue missions that serve as shelters for the homeless.

These missions are more than beds and meals. They are places where broken people come seeking a fresh start, and High Plains Bible Mission meets them there with the message of Forgive Instantly and Live Free. Staff and guests alike learn that unforgiveness and stored-up anger keep the heart locked in pain, fueling the very addictions and despair that brought them to the shelter. Through books, short teachings, and personal conversation, the ministry shows how the two parts of forgiving—releasing the offender and, more importantly, setting the victim free—open the door to real freedom. When the bitterness is erased, the compulsive pull of addiction and the cycle of homelessness begin to lose their power.

High Plains Bible Mission works alongside the rescue missions by equipping chaplains, staff, and residents with tools they can use immediately. Whether in a chapel service, a recovery group, or a quiet conversation on the sidewalk, the emphasis remains the same: deal with anger at its source rather than merely managing the symptoms. Across the country, from inner-city shelters to rural missions, this approach has helped countless individuals move beyond temporary relief to lasting change—finding not only a roof over their heads but a healed heart and a new direction rooted in the forgiveness Jesus offers.
